About Me
My name is Ian Clayman, and I'm a game designer from NY living and working in Los Angeles. On this site you'll find a small sample of my work and my current CV, as well as means of contacting me directly.
A bit about me: I grew up in Rockaway Beach, NY, and after graduating from Marist College's Games and Emerging Media program in December 2019 I moved out to Los Angeles to start working as a game designer for Exploding Kittens, Inc. My big passions in design are approachability and expression — making games that are easy to pick up, engage both new and experienced gamers, and allow players to create their own stories through gameplay. I also enjoy using statistical and playtesting data-driven design to craft systems with depth and finely-tuned balance. I'm both a video game and tabletop game designer, with industry experience developing for mobile and console using the Unity3D engine.
In my downtime I'm an avid museum-goer, a watchmaker, a pub trivia fiend, a mild-mannered soccer hooligan (go LAFC!), and a dog dad to a 2 year-old Shiba Inu named Yue.
You can find a form to contact me directly at the bottom of this page. Please reach out — I'm always open to collaborations and questions!
WHAT I'VE BEEN EXCITED ABOUT LATELY
Currently enjoying the start of the MLS season and hoping our Los Angeles Football Club can reclaim the crown. I also just returned from GDC, where my fellow Exploding Kitten Carol Mertz and I gave a talk about designing for accessibility in the mass market tabletop industry!
